Entering the Dragon's Den...
Having exhibited for over 12 years, Aries Pensions Ltd wanted to do something completely different at this years NPAF Annual Conference, held at Manchester Central (GMEX). In a move away from their usual Shell Scheme approach, their brief to us was to build a stand inspired by TV's Dragon's Den. Using the services of a trained 'spotter' and professional presenter, they invited visiting delegates into the den to act out the role of Dragons. Manchester exhibition design continued...
An absolutely fabulous exhibition darling!!
Inverness wanted to shake things up a bit at the IBMS conference, and give visitors to their stand an experience they wouldn't forget! We created a real sense of intrigue by designing this striking enclosed stand with controlled entry points and slatted side walls to allow visitors just a peek at what was going on inside. Exhibition design for Lab Fab continued...
Gigolo Menswear aim high with Magento
Gigolo Menswear are a small niche fashion store with a 25 year history based in Northwich, but when it comes to their ecommerce presence, they are anything but small. Stocking top brands such Superdry, Firetrap, Base London & Lacoste, Gigolo Menswear have gone from strength to strength and have aspirations to be a top online fashion provider. Parker Design implemented the powerful Magento application backed with php, CSS, MySql, Sagepay, SSL, love and care.
Online crime fighting with Home Bargains
After launching the new Home Bargains website earlier this year the company decided they wanted to use it to help combat in store crime. Shoplifting is a significant problem, costing Home Bargains around £6 million annually. As creators and managers of the website Parker Design added the Crime Busters section containing CCTV images of people Home Bargains would like to speak to. The launch caused quite a stir with the media and resulted in a 46% increase in site traffic.
Andi Parker
After qualifying in Technical Graphics, I cut my teeth in the design industry working for several well known advertising agencies in London. Returning to Cheshire in the early 90's without a job I decided to set up on my own. Now, as well as being the MD of Parker Design, I'm still a hands on designer and get a massive kick working on creative projects and have a passion for 'big ideas'.
Simon Hallows
On qualifying I ran an in-house design service for 5yrs, before becoming studio manager of an ad agency for a further 3. I joined Andi in '98, subsequently being made Director in '04. I get a huge buzz from good design and an even bigger buzz from exceeding client's expectations. When adrenaline levels dip I've been known to snowboard, surf and occasionally front a rock band!
Jo Pennington
After graduating I worked in London and ran an in-house studio for a PR agency for six years. My design passion is for great concepts and strong branding, and I really enjoy building and nurturing great relationships with clients. Outside of work I spend my time trying to be Super Nanny and Nigella Lawson rolled into one, when that doesn't work I grab my trainers and go for a run instead.
Martin Higham
With 13 years design experience and 9 years web and multimedia experience my majority role is as a web designer and Flash developer. I also turn my hand to illustration and animation.
Outside of the studio I enjoy snowboarding, cinema and cooking, but the main thing for me is bikes... building, riding or repairing, I don't really mind!
Dom Bartram
I began pixelpushin as a freelancer before landing my first fulltime job in Chester & then moving to bigger things over in Manchester. I get a kick from producing initial logo concepts & brand rollout across various applications, anything from web to tattoos. Aside from the day job I enjoy anything with an element of danger, 4 wheels good 2 even better.
Sam Hutchinson
After graduating in Fine Art & Computer Science, I joined University of Chester as Web, Design & Publications Manager. Being headhunted by a blue chip company followed. I then ran my own design firm for over six years. I was lured back to the rat race as Creative Director before searching for a more demanding role. In my spare time I am 3DJ at Funkdub & sample a lot of pies.

AN ABSOLUTELY FABULOUS
EXHIBITION DARLING!!
Once inside the stand, visitors were treated to an hilarious spoof fashion show entitled Lab Fab. Sending up laboratory fashion, or the lack thereof, we designed and had made 22 comedy lab coats ranging from Chav-Lab to Gangsta-Lab. The show was compared by a professional Patsy (Ab Fab) and Brüno impersonators, with Inverness's own marketing team doing the modelling! The fun element of the stand was complemented with more serious messages, promoting the full range of Inverness products through wall graphics and a quiz. Not only did the stand get Inverness noticed, it became the talking point of the show – in fact it was so popular they had to frequently close the stand due to overcrowding!
ENTERING THE DRAGON'S DEN...
Working in a fairly tight area of 3x4m we designed and built this modular set. Together with authentic props, piles of fake cash and dramatic lighting, visitors to the stand really felt like 'Dragons' as they were invited to sit in the famous chairs and listen to Aries' pitch.
The stand has been constructed in such a way so as to allow it to be reconfigured for future shows. Whatever industry you are in, if you've a service or product to sell, this is a great way to get your company noticed and more importantly remembered!
